Android to get AirDrop sharing beyond Pixel phones soon

Android users may soon get one of their most requested features. As per Android Authority, Google has confirmed them that AirDrop interoperability, previously limited to the Pixel 10 series, will expand to more Android devices in 2026.

Quick Share-AirDrop interoperability

Last year, Google made Android’s Quick Share compatible with Apple’s AirDrop, but the feature remained Pixel-exclusive. Android Authority reports that Google upgraded Quick Share from a system app stub to a full Play Store APK, making AirDrop support a Quick Share feature rather than tied to Pixel hardware. This move signaled that broader Android availability was likely coming.

During a press briefing in Taipei, Eric Kay, Vice President of Engineering for Android, said,

We’ve built something compatible with iPhone, iPads, and MacBooks, and are now working with partners to expand it into the rest of the ecosystem.

His comments indicate that Quick Share-AirDrop interoperability is set to become a wider Android feature, targeting one of Apple’s key ecosystem advantages.

Availability?

Google has not named specific devices or partners, but Nothing has confirmed plans to support the feature, while Qualcomm has hinted at bringing AirDrop support to Snapdragon-powered phones. Users will need to wait for official announcements or rollouts to know exact availability.
