Sonos has announced Amp Multi, a multi-channel streaming amplifier designed for complex residential audio installations. Developed in close collaboration with professional integrators, Amp Multi extends the Sonos ecosystem into larger and more sophisticated homes while maintaining simple control and consistent performance.
Sonos Amp Multi
Amp Multi is designed to support modern residential layouts, including open floor plans and mixed-use spaces. Sonos says integrators needed a system that could adapt as home designs evolve without increasing installation complexity or homeowner friction.
The amplifier has eight outputs at 125W each, configurable across up to four zones. Any output can be assigned to any zone, and multiple units can be combined to scale installations. Each output supports up to three Sonos Architectural speakers, allowing a single Amp Multi to drive up to 24 speakers across multiple rooms.
At the hardware level, Amp Multi uses a gallium nitride (GaN) power architecture paired with Class-D post-filter feedback (PFFB). This design improves audio accuracy, dynamic control, and thermal efficiency, enabling fanless, silent operation and stable long-term performance.

Features
Flexible multi-zone configuration
Amp Multi provides eight amplified outputs rated at 125W each at 8 ohms. Integrators can configure outputs in any combination across up to four independent zones and deploy multiple units for larger installations.
High speaker density support
Each channel supports up to three Sonos Architectural speakers, enabling dense speaker layouts without compromising system stability or sound consistency.
Advanced tuning and DSP tools
Amp Multi introduces ProTune, a manual sound optimization tool that allows granular per-output control, including:
- 10-band parametric EQ
- Gain adjustment
- Width control
- Delay offset
The system also supports Optimize Sonos Speakers, which applies detailed DSP profiles for Sonos Architectural speakers.
Fast and predictable setup
Each unit emits a unique audible chirp triggered from the Sonos app, eliminating the need for manual PIN entry and simplifying hardware identification in equipment racks. The app also allows integrators to manage zones, sources, and outputs efficiently.
Rack-ready and installer-focused design
Amp Multi uses a 1.5U chassis designed for modern racks. When paired with the dedicated 2U rack mount (sold separately), it creates built-in ventilation space above and below each unit, removing the need for additional vent panels and supporting cleaner cable management.
The flat-back design and recessed connectors allow the unit to stand upright while the rack mount slides into place. The installation process requires eight screws, helping reduce installation time and variability.
Low-maintenance operation
The GaN-based, convection-cooled design eliminates cooling fans, reducing dust buildup, thermal stress, and common failure points over long-term use.
