ASUS ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses with 240Hz micro-OLED display, ROG Control Dock announced

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced the ROG XREAL R1, the world’s first 240Hz micro-OLED FHD (1920×1080) gaming glasses. The device features the ROG Control Dock for connectivity with PCs and consoles and is designed to integrate with the ROG Ally handheld console. It works within the broader ROG ecosystem, providing a wearable display solution for both desktop setups and mobile gaming. The glasses allow users to access a large virtual screen in a lightweight form factor suitable for multiple environments.

The ROG XREAL R1 provides a 57° field of view (FOV), 3 Degrees of Freedom (3DoF), and electrochromic lens tinting. The virtual display can reach a size equivalent to 171 inches at 4 meters, covering 95% of the focused viewing area. The glasses support a 240Hz refresh rate with 3ms motion-to-photon latency. Anchor Mode allows the virtual screen to remain fixed in a physical position, while head-tracking keeps content centered in front of the user for consistent viewing during motion.

The glasses include Sound by Bose for spatial audio output. The electrochromic lenses automatically adjust brightness based on ambient lighting and screen focus, and they also allow three levels of manual dimming. These features maintain visibility across different lighting conditions. The glasses provide a virtual display suitable for gaming, video playback, or other media, ensuring content remains sharp and clear in various environments.

For connectivity, the ROG XREAL R1 supports DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 ports on the Control Dock. It can also connect directly to the ROG Ally or other USB-C-enabled devices for plug-and-play functionality. The spatial co-processing X1 chip enables adjustment of the virtual screen’s size and distance. The glasses weigh 91 grams and are compatible with the ASUS DisplayWidget Center app, allowing display settings to be managed from a PC or laptop.
