Google has announced extended support initiatives for select Pixel 9 series devices after determining that a limited number of units may experience hardware issues affecting device functionality. The programs apply to Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices, providing free repairs or replacements depending on the model and verified eligibility.
Pixel 9 Pro & Pixel 9 Pro XL
Google has introduced an Extended Repair Program for Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL smartphones. Coverage applies for three years from the original retail-purchase date. Eligible devices must show one of the following display issues:
- A vertical line running from bottom to top
- Display flicker (Pixel 9 Pro only)
If the repair facility verifies eligibility after inspection, users can receive a free display replacement at Google walk-in centers, authorized service partners, or through online repair channels.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold
The Extended Warranty Program for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold covers hardware issues that affect core device functionality. Instead of a display repair, verified users may receive a full device replacement at no charge.
Depending on location and service availability, eligible users may receive a replacement online, in-store at a participating Google Store, or via a walk-in facility that can authorize a remote replacement.
Eligibility conditions
Across both programs:
- Devices with cracked displays, cover-glass damage, or liquid intrusion may be disqualified
- Fees may apply if damage falls outside the scope of the programs
- Proof of ownership may be requested during the support process
- Participants must be 18+, or a parent/guardian must complete the process for minors
These programs operate independently of statutory consumer-law rights in each country, which remain unchanged.
Users are recommended to back up their data before handing over the device. Backup can be initiated via Settings → System → Backup. Repair mode (if available) can also be enabled from the System menu to prepare the phone for servicing.

The Programs start December 8, 2025, through authorized online and in-store channels
- Pixel 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL: free display repair
- Pixel 9 Pro Fold: full device replacement (one per device)
- Previously paid repairs: eligible users will receive instructions via email
- Coverage and service options vary by location; fees may apply for ineligible or out-of-warranty damage
- All repairs/replacements carry a 90-day warranty, subject to local consumer laws
