WhatsApp has announced a set of new features, covering richer media sharing, AI-powered customization, improved group discovery, and document tools.
Live and Motion Photos
WhatsApp now supports Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android, allowing users to share moments with both sound and movement across devices.
AI-Powered Chat Themes
The platform is extending customization with Meta AI-generated chat themes, enabling users to design their own chat looks. (AI features may not be available to all users initially.)
AI Backgrounds
Users can create AI-driven backgrounds for video calls or when capturing photos and videos directly in chats, adding more personalization options.
New Sticker Packs
Three sticker sets — Fearless Bird, School Days, and Vacation — are now available, offering new characters to enhance conversations.
Easier Group Search
A new group search feature makes it easier to find chats. By typing a contact name in the Chats tab, WhatsApp will show all groups shared with that person.
Document Scanning on Android
WhatsApp has added a document scanner for Android, allowing users to scan, crop, save, and send documents directly from the app. (This feature is already present on iOS.)
Availability
These updates will roll out gradually to WhatsApp users on both Android and iOS worldwide over the coming weeks.
