HONOR Magic V5 Unboxing and First Impressions


HONOR just introduced the Magic V5, the company’s latest flagship foldable phone, at an event in London. This gets the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Soc, features a sleek design, comes with IP58 + IP59 for dust and water resistance, and has a bigger battery compared to the Magic V3. Here we have the unboxing and first impressions of the phone.

The HONOR Magic V5 features a 7.95″ foldable OLED (2352×2172 pixels) 120Hz LTPO screen with a peak brightness of 5000 nits. The sunlight legibility is good.

The outer screen has a 6.43″ (2376×1060 pixels) 120Hz OLED panel with a peak brightness of 5000 nits. Both the screens support stylus input, support HDR Vivid, Dolby Vision, and offer 4320Hz PWM dimming.

Powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform with 16GB of RAM, the phone runs MagicOS 9.0, the HONOR Magic V5 integrates Google Gemini with quick double-tap shortcut, AI-powered HONOR Notes, real-time transcription and translation, and creative tools such as AI Image to Video and AI Cutout. The Multi-Flex mode enables multitasking with up to three apps simultaneously.

The Ivory White model is the slimmest, measuring 8.8mm folded and 4.1mm unfolded, weighing 217g. The golden colour that we have is 9mm and weighs 222g. You can see the antenna bands on the sides since the phone features a metal frame.

The power button and the volume rockers are on the right. The speaker grill, primary microphone and the USB Type-C port are on the bottom. The secondary microphone and the speaker vent are on the top.

The HONOR Magic V5 features the AI Falcon Camera System with a 64MP Ultra Sensing 3x Periscope Telephoto with up to 100x zoom, 50MP Main, and 50MP Ultra-Wide cameras. There is a 20MP front camera on the inside and the outside. Enhanced by the AI HONOR Image Engine, it supports AI Enhanced Portrait, AI Super Zoom, and Motion Sensing Capture.

The phone has Anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield, and a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Inner Display Panel. It has IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance, compared to IPX8 ratings in the predecessor. It has a huge, 5820mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 66W wired fast charging, and 50W wireless charging.

The device had launched in the China market initially, but it is now going on sale in global markets. The HONOR Magic V5 is available in Ivory White, Black, Dawn Gold, and Reddish Brown. Priced at GBP 1,699.99 or EUR 1,999 for the 16GB + 512GB variant, the Magic V5 takes on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The HONOR Magic V5 stands out with impressive hardware, delivering a solid and premium experience for users. At the same time, its software could use a bit more polish to fully match the capabilities of the device. Overall, it’s a compelling option for anyone exploring the latest foldable smartphones
