Nothing will soon release its next smartphone, the Nothing Phone (3). Ahead of the release, the company has teased a major design update featuring the new Glyph Matrix — a compact, expressive, and programmable micro-LED lighting system.
What is the Glyph Matrix?
According to Christian de Looper of Design Milk, the Glyph Matrix replaces the larger segmented light strips of previous models with a dense cluster of micro-LEDs positioned at the top-right corner on the back of the phone. This smaller yet more versatile LED array allows for pixel-level animations, symbolic visuals, and reactive lighting that syncs with sounds and user interactions.
Adam Bates, Head of Design at Nothing, explains,
The Glyph Matrix carries forward the core belief of subtle, ambient light cues that keep you informed without distraction. It transforms the back of the device into an expressive, interactive canvas that feels alive and personal.
Key Benefits and Features
- More Programmability: The micro-LED matrix enables dynamic animations and complex visuals impossible with segmented strips.
- Space Efficiency: The smaller lighting system frees up internal space for improved hardware design.
- Unique Identity: The compact circular LED cluster creates a striking, instantly recognizable look.
- Personalized Interaction: Lighting effects can be assigned to different apps and notifications, blending function with personality.
Other specifications
The Nothing Phone (3) will officially feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset and could also offer a 16GB RAM variant. Like its predecessors, it will be manufactured in India to meet local market demand.
Launch Date
The official launch event is scheduled for July 1, 2025, at 6 PM BST (10:30 PM IST) and will be live-streamed on YouTube. During the event, we should learn more details about the phone, including the full design reveal and pricing.
