Facebook is replacing Videos with Reels

Meta announced an update to its Facebook app, streamlining its video editing and upload process. Currently, users can upload a video to Feed or post a reel, but this is changing. In the coming months, all videos on Facebook will be shared as reels and will not have any length or format restrictions.

Facebook is uniting the creative flows and tools for videos and reels into one. You can enhance your video/reel with intuitive editing tools, effects, music options, and more. Further, the audience setting remains the same, and you can decide whether you’re sharing only with friends or with the public.

As reels and video are merged as a single entity, UI change is also followed, renaming the Video tab to the Reel tab. Meta promises that the transition will not affect video recommendations, and people will see reels of all lengths relevant to their interests.

Availability

Meta will gradually roll out these changes globally to Facebook profiles and Pages over the coming months.

Regarding the matter, Facebook says,

Every day, people use Facebook to share content that helps them connect with friends, capture memories and showcase their interests. Now, we’re making it easier to share videos on Facebook by simplifying how you create and post videos. In the coming months, all videos on Facebook will be shared as reels, eliminating the need to choose between uploading a video or reel.
