Google released an interesting update to its Maps platform, specifically targeted at the European market. The update offers people sustainable transportation choices, like AI-based suggestions on route selection, more detailed cycling routes, and more.
Google Maps New Updates

Detailed Cycling Routes: Google is adding more details to cycling routes, such as lane information and familiar details like heavy car traffic or steep hills. This experience is available across 17 new cities, including Hamburg, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, and Rome.

Fuel Efficient Routing to more people: Fuel efficient routing, which helps you find the most fuel or energy efficient route to your destination, is now live globally.

Low Emission Zones indication: Many European cities have designated low-emission and low-traffic zones to decrease air pollution and traffic. The new feature alerts on these zones while routing. This feature is currently available in London and Berlin and will be expanded across Europe, including Italy, Sweden, Austria, and more.

Expansion of Project Green Light: Project Green Light uses AI and Maps driving trends to model traffic patterns and recommend how cities can optimize their existing traffic light plans. This project has now expanded to Vilnius and Lithuania. It is now available in 20 cities across 4 continents, helping drivers sail through more green lights.
