LG introduces webOS Hub 3.0 with enhanced AI for third-party TVs

LG has announced the release of webOS Hub 3.0, the latest iteration of its television platform designed for third-party brands. This new version integrates advanced AI technologies and additional features, aiming to refine the user experience on compatible TVs.

Initially, webOS Hub 3.0 will be available for UHD TVs featuring 60Hz displays. LG plans to expand its support to include 120Hz UHD TVs equipped with mini-LED technology starting in July, potentially broadening the platform’s market reach.

webOS Hub has gained recognition globally over the past five years for its intuitive interface and operational reliability, attracting over 600 brands to its ecosystem. With webOS Hub 3.0, LG seeks to strengthen its business-to-business (B2B) offerings and reinforce its position in the TV platform sector.

The new release incorporates several AI-powered upgrades. These include Voice Recommendation, powered by ThinQ AI, which suggests content based on user preferences. AI Picture utilizes Neural Network Super Resolution to enhance visual quality, while AI Sound aims to reduce noise and improve voice clarity during playback. These AI features are designed to contribute to an improved viewing experience.

webOS Hub 3.0 also supports advanced System-on-Chip (SoC) technology, which LG states provides performance improvements over its predecessor, webOS Hub 2.0. Other enhancements include support for mini-LED local dimming (for 120Hz models), Multiview functionality (offering Side-by-Side and Picture-in-Picture modes), Always On Display, and compatibility with Wi-Fi 6 and Auracast Bluetooth audio.

Regarding content, webOS Hub 3.0 offers access to a range of over-the-top (OTT) services and LG Channels, LG’s free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) service. LG Channels currently provides 4,000 channels across 33 global markets, offering a variety of content without subscription fees.

For gaming, the platform introduces an optimized experience with features such as Game Dashboard, Game Optimizer, and the new Gaming Portal. The Gaming Portal aims to simplify game discovery and access, presenting a curated list of cloud gaming apps, webOS app games playable with the remote, recently played titles, trending games, and editor’s picks.

The platform also integrates the Home Hub IoT solution, which supports the creation of personalized user environments. LG has stated its ongoing commitment to expanding its partner ecosystem and pursuing further innovations to enhance global reach and user value.

Regarding this, Chris Jo, head of webOS Platform Business Center at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, said:

The launch of webOS Hub 3.0 marks a significant milestone in four key areas: market expansion, technological advancement, enhanced B2B partnerships and future growth. By providing differentiated value, LG is positioning webOS as the platform of choice for global B2B partners.
