OpenAI Academy India in partnership with IndiaAI and MeitY launched

OpenAI has partnered with IndiaAI, a government-led mission, to launch its first education platform outside the United States — OpenAI Academy India. The initiative aims to expand access to AI skills training across the country.

OpenAI Academy India

The academy focuses on making AI learning tools and resources more accessible to India’s growing community of developers, digital platforms, startups, and innovators.

It also supports the IndiaAI Mission’s ‘FutureSkills’ objective by offering AI training to a wide range of individuals — including students, educators, developers, civil servants, nonprofit leaders, and small business owners.

Features and Learning Options

The academy offers both online and offline learning formats, adapted to suit learners across India. Courses will be available in English and Hindi at launch, with more regional languages to follow.

Key features include:

  • Online and in-person training options
  • Courses in English and Hindi, with four more regional languages coming soon
  • Content hosted on the iGOT Karmayogi platform
  • Webinars and workshops in six major cities
  • Up to $100,000 in API credits for 50 IndiaAI-approved startups or fellows
  • Training program for 1 million teachers on Generative AI tools

Training content will be hosted on the government’s iGOT Karmayogi platform, which supports skill development for public officials. Workshops and webinars will be led by OpenAI experts and partners to reach a broad group of learners across the country.

Leadership Perspectives

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & IT, said the initiative supports India’s goal of making advanced technology widely accessible under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that it will help startups, developers, and researchers create faster and more scalable solutions.

Jason Kwon, Chief Strategy Officer at OpenAI, said India is seeing rapid progress in AI development and innovation. He said the collaboration with IndiaAI is meant to help more people gain the skills and confidence to use AI meaningfully in their work and communities.
