FUJIFILM India announced the GFX100RF, the first GFX model with a fixed lens. At about 735g, it’s now the lightest in the series, undercutting the GFX50R’s 775g body weight.
Key Features and Design
The GFX100RF houses a 102MP large-format ‘GFX 102MP CMOS II’ sensor along with the X-Processor 5 engine. FUJIFILM said the camera ensures high image quality, featuring low noise, wide dynamic range, better edge definition, and improved autofocus precision.
Its build includes a machined aluminum top plate, dials, bottom plate, and lens ring—crafted from solid metal blocks—offering a clean and durable structure.
Highlights and Functionality
New Aspect Ratio Dial on the top rear allows quick switching across nine aspect ratios, including the newly added 3:4 and 17:6 formats. A Digital Teleconverter Lever on the front enables easy switching between three fields of view:
- 45mm (equiv. 36mm)
- 63mm (equiv. 50mm)
- 80mm (equiv. 63mm)
Based on a standard 35mm lens (equiv. 28mm).
The camera features a 3.15-inch two-axis tilt LCD (2.1M dots) with a refreshed UI and surround view that shows extra elements outside the frame based on aspect ratio. It’s paired with a 5.76M-dot EVF (0.84x magnification) that reduces blur from off-center viewing for added clarity.
Optics and Lens
The GFX100 II Digital Teleconverter model uses a built-in 35mm F4 fixed lens with a leaf shutter, which enables flash synchronization at any shutter speed — even in bright light. Its compact form is achieved through a short back focus design.
- Lens construction: 10 elements in 8 groups, including 2 aspherical elements to reduce distortion and maintain image sharpness
- Nano GI coating helps suppress edge reflections
- Close focusing distance of 20 cm
- Built-in 4-stop ND filter — the first of its kind in the GFX lineup
Autofocus and Video Recording
AF capabilities are enhanced with better prediction algorithms and face/eye detection. An AI-powered subject detection system recognizes animals, birds, vehicles, and aircraft. For video, touch-enabled tracking AF is available.
- Supports 4K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video.
- Features F-Log2 with 13+ stops of dynamic range.
- Default ISO 100 for clean, low-noise output.
- Compatible with Frame.io Camera to Cloud, enabling instant uploads of stills and video for faster post-production.
