Elon Musk: Twitter is getting rebranded as ‘X’

Elon Musk has announced the company’s plan to retire its iconic blue bird logo and rebrand the platform as X.com. The move aims to bring a fresh identity to the social media giant. In a recent tweet, Musk hinted at bidding farewell not only to the Twitter brand but also to its bird-themed elements.

A short teaser animation featuring an X graphic on a black background was tweeted by Musk on Sunday, hinting at the new logo for X.com. Musk further confirmed via tweet that X.com now leads to Twitter.com, in line with their rebranding.

CEO Linda Yaccarino Shares Excitement

Twitter’s CEO Linda Yaccarino unveiled the new Twitter logo in a post on Monday, expressing her enthusiasm with the statement “X is here! Let’s do this.” She also shared a post featuring the caption “Lights. Camera. X!” and an image of the X logo displayed on their headquarters building.

X.com: A Second Chance for Transformation

Yaccarino described the decision to rebrand Twitter as an opportunity for a “second chance.” She emphasized that X.com would further transform the global town square, building upon the significant impact Twitter has already made in the world of communication.

X Logo’s Worldwide Debut

Musk promised that if a compelling X logo was posted on Twitter, the rebranding would go live worldwide on Monday, July 24. This added an interactive element to the announcement, encouraging users to participate in shaping the new identity.

Company executives confirmed that Twitter Inc. was officially renamed to X Corp. in the State of Nevada, with its headquarters based in San Francisco, California.

A Dramatic Shift Under Musk’s Leadership

Since Musk’s acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion, significant changes have been implemented. He overhauled the leadership team, dissolved the board of directors, and downsized the workforce drastically. These moves, along with Musk’s controversial views on free speech, led to a notable decline in advertising revenue.

Focus on Subscription Revenue and Twitter Blue

Musk has been actively working to increase subscription revenue through Twitter Blue, a paid service offering benefits like a “verified” blue-check mark, previously available only to celebrities.

Additionally, the company began sharing ad revenue with certain creators, making Twitter Blue subscribers eligible for payments.

With this rebranding, Twitter is signalling a clear departure from its previous identity, embracing a new era under Musk’s leadership.

Announcing the updates, Linda Yaccarino, CEO of Twitter, said:

X represents the future of unlimited connectivity, encompassing audio, video, messaging, and banking to create a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. With the power of AI, X will connect us in ways we have yet to imagine. For years, Twitter has been urged to dream bigger and innovate faster to realize its full potential.

X is the realization of that potential and more. Over the past 8 months, we have seen X take shape through rapid feature launches, but this is only the beginning. There are no limits to this transformation. X will be the platform that delivers everything. Elon Musk and I are excited to work with our teams and partners to bring X to the world.
