Pixel 7a teardown surfaces ahead of launch

Google has begun teasing the release of its forthcoming Pixel smartphone, the Pixel 7a, in India on May 11th after its unveiling at the Google I/O on May 10th. A new teardown video of the device by PBKreviews has surfaced, unveiling the Pixel 7a’s internals.

Design and Internal Components

The Pixel 7a features a plastic back that can be disassembled from both the back and front. The teardown video shows that the device has two cameras and a flash on its back. Interestingly, the video suggests that the Pixel 7a will wireless charging due to its wireless charging coil and NFC antenna located at the back of the device.

Additionally, there is a large graphite film on the other side to help transfer heat. Despite its battery capacity being advertised as 4385mAh, the teardown indicates that it is written as 4344mAh at the back.

The top of the device has an earpiece and a speaker with a red rubber gasket around the opening. Meanwhile, the front of the device has a copper film to transfer heat and has a display fingerprint sensor, a cutout in the screen for the proximity sensor, and a graphite film over the mid-frame to help transfer heat, similar to what was seen at the back.

The main board of the device features copper tape on the shields to help transfer heat, a rubber gasket around the charger port, and even has a liquid damage indicator sticker. The primary microphone is located at the bottom next to the charger port, and additional copper heat plates are present at the side for better heat handling.

Camera and Speaker Assembly

The Pixel 7a comes equipped with a 64MP primary camera with OIS and a 13MP ultra-wide secondary camera that lacks support for OIS. Additionally, there is a 13MP selfie camera with a centered punch-hole. The bottom speaker assembly has little white foam balls that make the speaker sound larger than it is. There is a rubber gasket, a mesh filter, and power and volume keys on the sides. The vibrator motor is located at the bottom corner.

Repairability Score

The Pixel 7a has a repairability score of 7.5/10. This indicates that the design, parts availability, screen, and battery replacement are easily repairable and accessible. However, there may be some difficulty in replacing miscellaneous parts, as per the teardown video.

In conclusion, the teardown video of the Google Pixel 7a has revealed some of the device’s internal components and design. The Pixel 7a appears to be a promising device with its wireless charging capabilities and easy repairability.
