Android’s Nearby Share for Windows is now available in Beta


Google has launched Nearby Share Beta for Windows, a new app that allows easy file sharing between Android devices and Windows PCs. The app was first introduced in 2020 as a quick and easy way to share files between your own devices and with nearby friends.

Google states that the nearly 3 billion active Android devices can use Nearby Share to swiftly send and receive content between Android phones, tablets, and Chromebooks.

Nearby Share with your Windows PC

With Nearby Share Beta, sending files from your Windows PC to your nearby Android device is effortless.

Quickly send a photo from your Android device to your PC with Nearby Share Beta for Windows.
  • The app runs in the background, eliminating the need to keep it open on your desktop
  • You can send photos, videos, and documents by dragging and dropping them into the app, or by selecting “Send with Nearby Share” in the right-click menu.
  • A list of nearby Android devices will appear, and you can select which ones you want to share with.
To send files from your Android device to your computer using Nearby Share Beta:
  • Ensure that the app is running on your PC.
  • Tap ‘Share’ on the content you want to send.
  • Select your PC from the list of available devices.
Availability

Google has announced that the Nearby Share Beta for Windows is now available in the U.S. and select regions globally. However, ARM devices are not supported.

Currently, the following countries are not supported

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Donbass, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
