Apple Watch Pro to get a redesign, a larger display but no new sensors: Report

Three new Apple Watch models, including the rumoured Apple Watch Pro, will be unveiled by Apple in two months’ time. It had already been rumoured that this Apple Watch Pro would have a larger display, a longer battery life, and a new body-temperature sensor. Gurman believes that this watch may stay on for multiple days on just a single charge thanks to the alleged low-power mode, which Apple has not yet commented on.

In his most recent Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg gives more details about this product. Rugged, a new high-end model made for “extreme sports,” is the latest bet the company is making on a certain market segment. According to a reporter for Bloomberg, Apple could introduce “an evolution of the current rectangular shape, and not a circular one.”

This means that the Apple Watch Pro could get its first update since 2018, but it won’t have the flat sides that some people thought the Apple Watch Series 7 would have. Apple’s new watchOS 9 is teasing an Apple Watch Pro targeting extreme sports. This new operating system has a redesigned Workout app that gives you more information at a glance. It also gives old Watch Faces that weren’t updated to take advantage of bigger screens a new look.

Furthermore, Mark Gurman claimed nothing changed with other sensors for the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Pro, except for the body-temperature sensor. According to what he has learned, the technology for monitoring blood pressure probably won’t appear until 2025, and the glucose capability may not be available until closer to the end of the decade. Apple hasn’t added a new sensor in two years, and the company is likely to use the same processor from the Apple Watch Series 6 in the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8.

According to Bloomberg’s journalist, Mark Gurman,

I’m told that the high-end model is going to be a good bit bigger than the standard Apple Watch—big enough that it might only appeal to a subset of customers. The screen will be about 7% larger, and the device will have a fresh look—the first time the company has introduced a new Apple Watch design since 2018. It will be an evolution of the current rectangular shape, and not circular. It also won’t have those rumored flat sides (for those who will undoubtedly ask). In terms of materials, the watch will have a more durable formulation of titanium to make it extra rugged.
