London-based Nothing today launched the most expected Nothing Phone (1) in several countries, including India. It has a transparent design, features Glyph interface and also comes with support for wireless charging that you rarely see in phones in the price range. Here we have the unboxing and first impressions of the phone.

The Nothing phone (1) has a 6.55-inch Full HD+ OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. Since the screen has up to 1200 nits peaks brightness, it is bright even in outdoors. It has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front.
It is powered by the Snapdragon 778G+ SoC with 8GB / 12GB LPDDR5 of RAM and 128GB / 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The phone has support for 12 5G bands. The phone runs Android 12 with Nothing OS on top. The company has promised 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security updates for the phone.
Inside the tiny punch-hole there is a 16-megapixel camera with Sony IMX471 sensor and f/2.25 aperture. The earpiece grill is on the top edge, which doubles as up as a secondary speaker.
It has an in-display fingerprint scanner, which is quick to unlock the phone, immediately after you keep the finger in the area. There is a small chin below the display. Since the phone uses a flexible OLED panel, the company has managed to make the bezels uniform.
Coming to the button placements, the power button is present on the right side and the volume rockers are on the left side. The dual SIM slot, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grill are on the bottom. The secondary microphone is on the top. Since the sides have a metal frame, it doesn’t attract fingerprints.
The phone has an 100% recycled aluminium frame makes it light and robust, while over 50% of the phone’s plastic components are made with bio-based or post-consumer recycled materials – an industry-leading percentage, says the company.
It has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the glass back, but you can still see tiny scratches. There are 900 LEDs on the back that offer several customization options.
- Flip to Glyph feature lights up the LEDs for message and call notifications when you put the phone face down
- The light in the middle lights up when you are wireless charging or reverse wireless charging your accessories
- When you plug the wired charger, the bottom LEDs glow to act as a charging progress bar. This turns off after a few seconds to save the battery, but it lights up again when you touch or wiggle the phone.
- The entire set of LEDs can light up when you are shooting a photo to brighten up the image. There is also a dedicated LED flash next to the camera.
- There is a separate red LED light on the top corner that acts as a recording indicator for videos
- 10 built-in ringtones with custom light patterns for each so that you can pair them with contacts to know who is calling. This will also be customizable for app notifications soon
The phone has dual rear camera with a 50MP main camera with f/1.88 aperture, Sony IMX766 sensor, OIS and a 50MP 114° ultra-wide camera with Samsung JN1 sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 4cm macro option and 4K at up to 30 fps. Check out some camera samples below.
The phone has a 4500mAh battery with support for 33W PD charging, which can charge up to 50% power in 30 minutes. It also has 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging.
