Back in 2019, YouTube launched its Premium and Music Premium subscription for ad-free videos and music in India and the company has been making changes to the plans like new non-recurring prepaid plans for India, etc. Following that now, the company is testing a new YouTube Premium Lite subscription.
YouTube Premium Lite, as the name suggests that it is cheaper than YouTube Premium and this one offers only an ad-free viewing experience across the web, Android app, iOS app, Kids app, consoles, etc. Unlike YouTube Premium, the Premium Lite will not offer background playback, ad-free music listening, offline downloads.
The subscription will cost 6.99 Euro/month (USD $8.30 approx. / Rs. 617 approx.) and is currently being tested in Nordics and Benelux. The company is also said to be testing other plans, and we can expect a global rollout soon.
Commenting on this, a YouTube spokesperson said:
In Nordics and Benelux (except for Iceland), we’re testing a new offering to give users even more choice: Premium Lite costs €6.99/month (or local equivalent per month) and it includes ad-free videos on YouTube.
