Google Meet update brings redesigned viewing options and content sharing, built-in data saver and more

Google has announced a new update to their video conferencing application, Google Meet, introducing a few changes to the interface and also added a few features. These include changes to viewing and sharing content on call, the addition of a Data saver feature, automatic light adjustment and more.

Soon in Google Meet, users will be able to organize their incoming video feed in calls by being able to pin multiple tiles to keep them in focus. This is extremely useful when the user wishes to highlight the presentation and the speaker(s) at the same time.

Users will also be able to resize, reposition or hide their own video feed, which can reduce the chances of getting distracted. These two features will be rolling out in the coming months.

For those who are data conscious, Google is adding a Data Saver feature in Meet, which will place limits data usage on mobile networks when video calling. This is useful in regions where the data costs are high.

When using Google Meet on the web, it will automatically detect if the user’s video is underexposed and enhance the brightness to improve visibility. And for Google Workspace customers, soon there will be a feature where the camera will auto-zoom to place the user in the center of the frame.

Lastly, Google Meet also some fun new video background replacements including a classroom, a party and a forest. More backgrounds will be coming soon over the coming months.
