Samsung to reportedly supply foldable OLED panels for Xiaomi, Google and OPPO

In a recent development, Samsung Display is reportedly working on developing foldable OLED panels for companies like Google, Xiaomi, and OPPO. According to the report, smartphones with these panels will be launched this year.

In this case, OPPO will feature a clamshell design, folding from top to bottom. The display size is 7.7-inch unfolded, while the outer screen is sized between 1.5 to 2-inches.

It’s worth mentioning that OPPO unveiled an outfolding 7.7-inch foldable prototype last year, where it used Samsung Display, BOE, and Visionox as partners to develop foldable panels. This year, it’s exclusive to Samsung.

Xiaomi, on the other hand, is planning to launch an in-folding device as it is reportedly aiming to launch a foldable smartphone with an 8-inch display. The outer display will have a 6.38-inch display developed by Samsung Display and CSOT.

Also, the search engine giant Google has requested Samsung to develop a foldable OLED panel with a 7.6-inch in size. The report also throws light on how smartphone makers are choosing in-folding devices rather than out-folding, which was followed till recently.

More and more foldable phones are coming as it is easier to secure the curvature needed for the panel to fold with the out-folding method.
