OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G Unboxing and First Impressions

OPPO’s Reno line of smartphones are well known for being solid mid-rangers with beautiful design and a great camera experience. They announced the Reno5 Pro 5G in the Indian market, which, as the name suggests, is a 5G capable smartphone with a quad-rear camera setup. Here are our first impressions of the device, along with an unboxing.

Box contents

  • 2-Pin 65W Charging Adaptor (10V at 6.5A)
  • USB Type-C earphones
  • USB Type-A to Type-C cable
  • SIM ejector tool
  • Protective case
  • Quick Guide and Warranty information

The phone has a 6.5-inch FHD+ (2400×1080) AMOLED display with a refresh rate of smooth 90Hz and a touch sample rate of 180Hz. The display’s edges on the side are curved, which OPPO calls 3D Borderless Sense Screen, giving the smartphone a screen-to-body ratio of 92.1%. It has a peak brightness of 1100 nits, which is plenty bright and sunlight readability was not an issue at all, and it is HDR10+ certified, which meant watching HDR content on Netflix and Amazon Prime was very enjoyable.

On the top left edge of the device there is a single punch hole that houses the 32MP front camera. On the top edge of the display is the speakerphone for calls, but it does not function as a loudspeaker.

The Reno5 Pro 5G is one among the first few smartphones to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ SoC, which is a 7nm octa-core CPU that can clock up to 2.6GHz. The SoC is 5G capable, and it is complimented by 8GB of RAM, which lends to an overall smooth experience. It runs ColourOS 11.1 that is based on Android 11; apps open quickly and the animations throughout the UI are smooth, helped by the fast 90Hz refresh rate.

The power button can be found on the right edge, the volume rockers can be found on the left edge, the top edge has a microphone and the bottom edge has the SIM slot (no MicroSD expansion supported), a USB-C port and the loudspeaker grill. The railings are made out of metal and the back panel is made out of glass with a really unique finish. To the touch, it feels almost satin-like, and it does a very good job of resisting fingerprints.

In the camera department, the Reno5 Pro 5G has a 64MP primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP 119° Ultra Wide Lens with f/2.2 aperture, a 2MP macro sensor, and an extra 2MP sensor mono portrait lens. The selfie camera is a 32MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture. OPPO has loaded a lot of features into the camera experience of the Reno5 Pro 5G, such as the Image-clear Engine, AI Scene Enhancement, and an Ultra Night Selfie Mode.

For video, the rear camera can shoot up to 4k at 30fps, or 1080p at 60fps, while the front camera can shoot at up to 1080p at 30fps. The phone can also shoot slow-motion at 960fps on the rear sensor, and it also supports Dual-view video, where video from both the front and rear sensors are captured. The Astral Blue version uses OPPO’s unique Reno Glow process that offers glittery visual effect with matte finish on its glass back cover and is also fingerprint and scratch resistant.

Keeping the phone alive is a 4350mAh battery, which supports up to 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 charging. OPPO claims that the Reno5 Pro 5G can charge from 0-100% in less than half an hour and 0-70% in 15 minutes, which we will test in our full review.

The OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G comes in Astral Blue and Starry Black colours, is priced at Rs. 35990 and is available for pre-order from Flipkart as well as offline stores starting today and will be available from January 22nd.
