Microsoft launches Family Security app with tools to control your kid’s online activities

Microsoft has released a new app called the Family Security app that provides parents tools to control and protect their kid’s online safety and activities. With it, parents can receive weekly activity reports, limit their kid’s device screen time, set web filters, enable location sharing and more.

To keep track of their kid’s device activities, parents use the Family Security app to receive a weekly activity report in their mail. The report will show a variety of information such as Screen Time, time spent in apps, and websites visited.

With the app, parents can now limit a kid’s app usage on a per app basis for the week. There are controls over the total app time limit, limits of which time of the day it can be used and even what days can the app be used. Kids will have the ability to request an extension on their app limits too.

Browsing the web can be dangerous for children, with a high probability of coming across unwelcome search results. The Family Security app can set web and search filters that block adult content, limiting browsing only to kid-friendly websites. The feature is currently available on Microsoft Edge browser on Windows, Xbox, and Android and will soon be supported on iOS.

Another feature that the app enables is purchase confirmations for items on the Microsoft Store. This will eliminate scenarios where a kid purchases items on store without the parent’s knowledge.

And finally, with the Family Security app, parents can now enable location sharing, with the ability to see the last known location of each family member.

The Microsoft Family Security app is available for download on the Play Store for Android and App Store for iOS.
