Apple Logic Pro X 10.5 major update brings Live Loops, Quick Sampler, Drum Machine Designer and more


Apple has announced a new update to the popular sound editing app, Logic Pro X 10.5, with a bunch of new features for sound designers. These include Live Loops, Remix FX, Sampler and Quick Sampler, Beat Creation, Logic Remote and more.

One of the highlight features in the new update is the Sampler and Quick Sampler. The Sampler builds on the industry-standard EXS24 plug-in, with an all-new modern design and expanded sound-shaping controls. More importantly for sound designer, it maintains full backward compatibility. Quick Sampler is a simple tool that enables the user to quickly turn any sound from within Logic, the Finder, Voice Memos, or even direct record into a playable instrument.

In this new update, there a host of new Beat Creation Tools. These include:

  • Step Sequencer  – An easy way to program beats, bass lines, and melodic parts with detailed control over note velocity, repeat, gate, skip, playback direction, and randomisation.
  • Drum Synth – Contains a whole collection of kick drums, snares, toms, and percussion sounds generated entirely by software.
  • Drum Machine Designer – Useful for simulating electronic drum kits in Logic that be played in real time, or programmed with Step Sequencer.

Apple has also released a companion app for iPhone or iPad called Logic Remote that lets a sound designer control Logic features and instruments that is running on their Mac.
