First Impressions

If you first pick up the new iPhone 11 Pro, it might look similar to the last years iPhone Xs but the moment you turn on the display, the improved Super Retina XDR display welcomes you. Apple has increased the contrast ratio on the display by two times. The maximum brightness has been increased to 1200 nits. Apple has replaced 3D Touch with Haptic Touch which is basically a long tap instead of pressing the screen.

Going over to the back, the design has changed radically and the new triple camera module is prominent. While this looked odd in pictures, the industrial design of the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro makes it look totally fine. And once you start using the new camera, you would appreciate it even more.

The cameras have been upgraded from a dual-camera 12MP module – Wide and Telephoto to a triple-camera 12MP module consisting of a Wide, Telephoto and a new Ultra wide camera. The pictures from the iPhone 11 Pro seem to be major upgrade from the iPhone Xs from my initial time with it. Also there is a new night mode which lets you click some really nice photos in low light. There are improvements on video recording front as well including Audio zoom and more possibilities due to the 3 cameras. With Apps like Filmic Pro, you can shoot capture video from multiple cameras at the same time which should be interesting to use. The front-facing camera has been upgraded to 12MP.

The iPhone 11 Pros are IP68 rated for Water and Dust resistance and can now go deeper to 4 meters or about 13 feet.

Powering the new iPhone 11 Pros are the new A13 Bionic chip which is designed in-house and Apple claims it is the fastest smartphone chip in the market right now.

The model we have is A2215 which supports most LTE bands in India. Apple has also include WiFi 6 and I am looking forward to testing it once I have a compatible router in the next few months. One interesting addition is a new U1 Wideband chip for spatial awareness.  AirDrop seems much faster due to this feature and it will help identify devices closer to you and prioritize them.

Apple claims that the iPhone 11 Pro will last 4 hours longer than the iPhone Xs. I was using the iPhone Xs Max last year for larger screen and extra battery life. It would be good to see how the iPhone 11 Pro holds up this year.  Finally Apple has included a 18W fast charger in the box which can get you 50% charge in 30 minutes.

The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max  will be available in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB capacity models in Gold, Space Grey, Silver, Midnight Green. the iPhone 11 Pro starts at Rs. 99,900 ( FlipkartAmazon.in) and the iPhone 11 Pro Max starts at Rs.1,09,900 ( FlipkartAmazon.in) respectively, same as the last year for the iPhone Xs. Stay tuned to our iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro coverage and comparisons with other devices.
