OnePlus has been revolutionizing the Indian smartphone market since its inception with OnePlus One. Since then, the company has almost doubled its market share in the premium smartphone segment in India, gaining the lead over smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung in India.
OnePlus launched its OnePlus 6 in May, which in fact became OnePlus’ fastest selling smartphone in the history. As a part of the tradition, the company is working on ‘T’ model, which is essentially an upgrade over the previous model in any given year.
According to a recent report, OnePlus 6T is expected to be the next mid-cycle refresh from OnePlus this year. The company also confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 6T will feature an in-display fingerprint reader, making it the first smartphone from OnePlus portfolio to have an in-display fingerprint scanner. The company has also released a new teaser which hints at the in-display fingerprint scanner.
It also said it originally intended to introduce the technology on the OnePlus 5T, but it did not do since the technology wasn’t mature enough to meet the company’s standards for delivering a fast and smooth user experience, so it had to wait for a year.
This in-display fingerprint scanner relies on CMOS sensor embedded underneath the OLED display to unlock the phone. Once the finger is placed in that specific area, the sensor lights up the area of the screen to detect the unique patterns of your fingers. As a result, the OnePlus 6T is expected to be thicker by 0.45mm since the internal hardware had to be rearranged. In addition to it, the OnePlus 6T is anticipated to be T-Mobile exclusive when it launches in the U. S later this year in addition to the standard unlocked global version.
Talking about the specifications, the yet-to-be-launched OnePlus 6T is expected to pack a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a water-drop notch, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with up to 8GB RAM and it might run Android 9.0 (Pie) out of the box. On top of that, the device is speculated to have a triple camera setup as well, similar to the OPPO R17 Pro.
The OnePlus 6T is rumored to be start at US$550 and is expected to launch on October 17th as the screenshot revealed. We might also see a new OnePlus Bullets wireless headphones at the event since it has passed through the FCC recently. Having said that, we will be knowing more information in the upcoming days.
