OnePlus trademarks WARP Charge, could rebrand DASH Charge

At the OnePlus 6 global launch, the company cautiously stayed away from using the word “Dash Charge” while talking about the battery department. Dash Charge is the companies unique charging technology that charges OnePlus phones very quickly and it is also considered to be the fastest among the fastest charging technologies. The OxygenOS Open Beta updates around that time also had replaced the term “Dash Charge” with “charging rapidly.”

If that’s not enough, online stores in several regions started calling Dash Charge cables as fast charge cables. However, it was later found out that OnePlus had started phasing out the term “Dash Charge” because it was rejected trademark application in the EU as it collides with Bragi’s “The Dash Pro” and Amazon’s “Dash Replenishment.” The alternative to this is for OnePlus to simply rebrand its Dash charging implementation to something more unique. Recent trademark filing in the EU indicates that OnePlus has filed for a trademark of “Warp Charge” as the probable rebrand.

WARP Charge

The application for “Warp Charge” was made at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and falls in the Nice class of 9. The Nice Classification system gives general information about the type of goods or services intended to be covered under the trademark.

The OnePlus application represents to “Data cables; power adapters; cell phone battery chargers; electrical adapters; batteries, electric; chargers for electric batteries; wireless chargers“. Though it doesn’t have any wireless chargers, the trademark has provision for the use on them, probably for upcoming devices. The application currently is marked as “under examination” by the authorities. The company will get a brand new name when the trademark is accepted, so we can expect a formal announcement once everything is cleared.
