HMD Global launched the Nokia 2 budget smartphone in India back in November last year. At the launch the company confirmed that the phone will get Android 8.0 (Oreo) update in the future. Later in December HMD Global’s Chief product officer Juho Sarvikas‏ confirmed that Nokia 2 will get Android 8.1 Oreo update directly skipping 8.0 update, and also said that it the update will bring most of the Android 8.1 features including the memory management improvements.

After several months, he has announced that the first Android 8.1 (Oreo) beta update for the smartphone is available, as he had promised last month. The Nokia 2.1 that was introduced a few weeks back is an Android (Go edition) smartphone.

Android 8.1 brings several new features including Neural Networks API, hamburger emoji fix, Revamped power menu, New Settings Menu, Bluetooth Battery percentage and developer APIs (API level 27), along with the latest optimizations, bug fixes, and security patches. The update also brings battery saving navigation buttons, revamped power menu, new settings menu and Bluetooth battery percentage.

Since the beta update is out, stable update should be available in the next few weeks after the feedback from the users.
