Google app v8.4 beta update reveals more details about ‘Read Later’ feature

Google App

Google is rolling a new beta update to the Google App bringing the app version to V8.4. However, there aren’t any major update or functionality changes, but it fully fixed the disappearing text and broken settings. Some of the headings in the Google Assistant settings area have been enlarged.

The ‘add reminder’ card in the recent screen now vertically centers the text. Now to the stuff underneath, previous app updates revealed references to ‘Read Later Feature’ which would let users store offline copies of articles and web pages for later viewing. Now the new update adds more details about how it will work.

The articles or web pages marked for ‘Read Later’ will be stored locally for seven days. You can find the saved articles from the Recent screen where previously visited pages are available for quick navigation. It looks like these pages will be mixed in with pages, but there might be filters to sort your saved pages. The slideshow feature on the upcoming smart displays might have gotten the play/pause feature. The pause button might be associated with a countdown timer, so it may automatically resume after some period of time.

You can download the Google App from the Google Play Store, if you have signed up for the beta testing. However, you can also download the APK and side-load it manually.
