We had the chance to test the Otterbox Commuter Series Case for the iPhone 4 for a few weeks and we were pretty impressed with the level of protection offered. Here is a short review of the case.
The package comes with a outer hard shell and a inner soft silicon case along with a cleaning cloth and a screen protector. We did not bother to install in screen protector but it’s recommended if you want to save the display from scratches. Getting the 2-part case on the phone does involve some amount of effort but it did not take too much time.
This case add quite a bit of extra bulk to your iPhone 4 as it comes with a 3 layers of protection but we are not complaining. We were pretty happy to use the iPhone 4 with this case on . We even dropped the phone unintentionally a couple of times on the table and nothing catastrophic happened
Most cases hide the Apple logo but this case reveals the logo on the back of the phone. The Camera and Flash are exposed so that you don’t take choppy pics just for the sake of protecting your phone.
The iPhone dock connector area normally attracts a lot of dust but since this case has a flap over it you can avoid dust getting inside.
They have applied the same logic to the Audio jack as well.
The power button and volume buttons are concealed while the speaker, microphone and silent key are exposed.
3 Layer protection including Screen protector
Most ports are covered
Can’t use the phone on a dock with case on.
Only one color choice
We have tried a bunch of cases since the iPhone 4 was out and the OtterBox Commuter Case is one of the best cases out in the market. It offers a good amount of protection , grip and does not hamper usage of the phone. The phone does not come out of the case easily like with some other cases we tested. It fits pretty well. We would like to see the case offered in more colors as black might not be everyone’s choice. We would give this case a 9/10
