Spotify improves free version with new design, data saver, personalized recommendations

Spotify Free Version

Earlier this month there were reports about Spotify working on a new free version of its music streaming services. Falling in line with the reports, the company today unveiled a new improved Spotify free version. This new version lets you discover music more efficiently and is also more personalized.

Since it is a free version, it contains ads and also comes with a brand new design. It also contains fifteen new ‘On-demand playlists’ allowing users to pick and play any track from the curated lists. These on-demand playlists’will be unique to you, based on your musical tastes. The music recommendations are more personalized as the free version will ask you about the artists you love during sign up.

Free version users can also create their own playlist, give it a name, preview specific tracks, and add to your playlist. As you save songs, Spotify will continue to suggest more songs. It is also bringing a new Data Saver option. It is a simple toggle switch that when turned on optimizes the listening experience to use less mobile data when you are listening to music. The new version is available on iOS and Android and will be rolling out globally to all markets in the coming weeks.

Spotify is yet to launch its services in India, but the company’s CEO recently confirmed that it launch soon. Hope we can expect this free service as well as premium service in the country.

Commenting on the launch, Babar Zafar, VP of Product Development at Spotify said:

Our customers always tell us that music discovery and listening is a personal experience, and we are enhancing the free experience with this in mind. This is the beginning of an evolution for Spotify and we will continue to make improvements that mirror our customers’ needs. This is not only about giving users a more customized free experience from the day they sign up, but giving them more control over their listening experience so they can easily find and stream their favorites anytime, from anywhere.
