Vivo APEX FullView Concept Smartphone with in-display fingerprint scanner, 98% screen-to-body ratio announced

Vivo back at the CES 2018 show introduced the first smartphone with in-display optical fingerprint and today, APEX FullView Concept Smartphone with in-display fingerprint scanner, 98% screen-to-body ratio. The company is using its FullView technology in breakthroughs to the camera, speaker, and sensor elements.

It is the world’s first Half-Screen Fingerprint Scanning Technology, following the industry’s first mass-produced In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Smartphone X20 Plus UD. It features slim top and side bezels at 1.8mm and a 4.3mm bottom bezel which is the thinnest in the industry. The screen-to-body ratio is expected to be around 98% if the bottom bezel reaches 1.8mm, ultimately creating a truly bezel-less experience.

Taking advantage of its audio technologies, Vivo introduced Screen SoundCasting Technology with APEX, that transforms the entire FullView Display into a speaker. The Screen SoundCasting Technology sends vibrations through the display without the need for a traditional loudspeaker. It conserves power, reduces sound leakage, and optimizes low to high pith sound for a better and more balanced audio experience.

Furthermore, APEX features an 8MP Elevating front camera which seamlessly rises in 0.8 seconds when it is required and retracts after use. Since it is an OLED screen, we expect the scanner is provided by Synaptics. The phone deploys a new System in Package (SIP) technology to integrate the DAC and the three operational amplifiers together, reducing the need for circuit board space by nearly 60%. Another advantage with this is that it reduces the need for circuit board space that allows for increased battery size as well as cooling.

Commenting on the same, Alex Feng, Senior Vice President of Vivo said

APEX is an iteration of our constant pursuit of setting new industry standards and to deliver the ultimate mobile experience. From breakthroughs in audio, photography to In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology, Vivo has remained committed to realizing our vision for future smartphones. What we showcase in this concept phone is only a fraction of our innovation pipeline. We will continue to explore all possibilities to bring the best possible experiences to our consumers.
