Intel launches powerful Kaby Lake ‘7th Gen Core i’ processors for computers and mobiles

Intel today officially unveiled its seventh generation of the Intel Core ‘i’ processor family – the Kaby Lake ‘7th Gen Intel Core’ processors which include dual-core Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5 and Intel Core i7 processors and the Intel mobile Core m3 processor for now.

Intel says that the Kaby Lake essentially gets the best of 14nm Skylake process technology which company calls 14nm+. These can delivers up to 12% faster productivity performance and up to 19 percent faster web performance  over the previous 6th generation Intel Core processors.

The company claims that these 7th Gen processors are 70% faster in mobile productivity and gets 3.5X better 3D graphics performance than a 5-year-old PC. It enables mobile designs that will allow faster 4K UHD creation and watching and streaming of 4K UHD content.

intel-7th-gen-core-die-with-labelThe new VP9 and HEVC 10-bit codec allows power efficient smooth 4K UHD, 4K 360-degree content playback while multitasking. The 4K UHD 360°video content creation is also 8X faster compared to a 5-year-old PC.

Intel scales 7thGen Intel Core processors to a variety of PC designs at a wide range of price points, which may include features such as Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C single-wire connection, low power premium audio and hassle-free facial recognition such as Windows Hello. Users can also expect to see PC designs based on 7thGen Intel Core processors with a variety of intuitive input options such as touch, voice, and stylus.

The new 7th Gen Intel Core U and Y series processors support Gen 3 PCIe with higher data transfer speeds of 8 GT/s as compared to 5 GT/s with PCIe Gen 2. The Intel Context Sensing SDK for the Intel Integrated Sensor Solution allows third-party software vendors to develop exciting sensor-enhanced applications. The new Intel Rapid Storage Technology supports NVMePCIex4 solid state drives as well.

The company expects OEMs to start shipping 7thGen Kaby Lake Core ‘i’ powered systems to end users by beginning of September and 7th Gen Core m3 mobile processor based products during the holiday season.
