Google Home is essentially a Chromecast clone with speaker and microphone: Report

Google Home

Google introduced Google Home voice activated home assistant at the I/O conference last month. The device which uses “Okay Google” voice command is said to a “dressed-up version of Chromecast video-streaming device”, according to a latest report from The Information.

Google Home uses a similar ARM-based processor and Wi-Fi chips, added the report. In addition, it is even powered by the same Linux-based OS used on the Chromecast. The device which comes with a microphones, speaker, and LED lights is essentially built into the hardware of a Chromecast. Just for a quick reminder, Google Home lets you enjoy music, manage everyday tasks and ask Google questions via voice commands. It is basically Google’s answer to Amazon Echo.

Google had mentioned it earlier that future versions of the Google Home devices could be powered by Android. Finally, the report concludes saying that the Chromecast is priced at $35 and Google might reduce the price of Google Home and price it competitively compared to the Amazon Echo which is priced at $179.
