A new report is speculating that Apple might give iPhone 7s a miss this year and instead jump straight to iPhone 8. The latest report comes from Barclays analyst Mark Moskowitz.

According to Moskowitz, Apple will skip its traditional “S” upgrade cycle in 2017 altogether. He said that his supply chain checks reveal there will not be a major iPhone upgrade this year as the upcoming model will not sport “any must-have form factor changes”. Moskowitz further stated the 2017 iPhone will get a “mega cycle” upgrade by adding a bunch of important features and significant hardware advances. These drastic changes will apparently help increase Apple’s iPhone sales by as much as 10.3 percent.

Typically, Apple first launches a new iPhone and one year later it ships the “s” upgrade which brings hardware improvements. It looks like Apple wants to launch the iPhone 7 in September as a small upgrade over the current 6s and then introduce the all-new iPhone 8 in 2017.  The analyst believes Apple will sell 1.8 percent fewer iPhones this year than it did last year, considering users response to their current devices and the rumored modest updates in the iPhone 7.

Current rumors are suggesting that Apple is planning on chucking the 3.5mm headphone jack, get OLED screen, wireless charging and so on.
