9.7 inch iPad Pro and iPhone SE pack 2GB of RAM

Apple unveiled the 4-inch iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro this week. The company does not reveal the RAM on its devices but thanks to TechCrunch’s Matthew Panzarino (via) we now know the details about the RAM on these newly announced devices.

Apple iPad Pro 9.7

Panzarino has discovered that both the devices feature 2GB of RAM. Last years iPhone 6s and 6s Plus also sported 2GB of RAM. In case of the 9.7 inch iPad Pro, it does not feature the 4GB RAM that is present on the 12.9 inch iPad Pro. This means, the smaller version of the iPad Pro gets the same 2GB RAM that is present on the iPad Air. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro features a faster A9X processor, while the iPhone SE features the A9 chip.

Besides finding out about the RAM, Panzarino, in a separate Geekbench test, reaffirmed that the A9X processor in the 9.7-inch iPad Pro runs at a slower speed than the same chip in the 12.9-inch version. The smaller iPad Pro scored 3022 on the test. Compared to its larger counterpart, the 9.7 inch iPad Pro features a 12-megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front camera, 4K video recording and Live Photos.

In case of iOS devices, RAM does not have quite the same effect as it does in laptops and desktops. This essentially means that adding more RAM to an iOS device does not necessarily mean it will result in a better and faster general performance.
