Google takes down ‘OK Google’ voice search from Chrome for desktop


Google has removed the ‘OK Google’ voice command feature from Chrome browser for desktop. The latest move comes from Google after releasing a stable version of Chrome 46.

Google added the “OK Google” voice command to Chrome via an extension in November 2013 following which it was built directly into the browser with the release of Chrome 35 in May 2014. It allowed the desktop users to give commands to Chrome browser using “OK Google” action. The company is removing the ‘OK Google’ feature from Chrome as many people are not utilizing it on Windows, OS X, and Linux.

It must be noted that users can still access the ‘OK Google’ functionality on the Chrome by simply clicking the mic icon first.This functionality is still available for Android devices and Chromebook except for PC platforms.
