Google Play Services 8.1 updated with Android Pay support

Google Play Services has received a latest update that suggests company’s mobile payment service is inching closer to its launch. The latest update that bumps the Play Services to version 8.1 shows support for Android Pay.

As a result of the update, a new option is seen under the “Tap and pay” options, which would allow users to select between Google Wallet and Android Pay. But as the service is not live yet users cannot setup their card for Android Pay just yet.  Android Pay appears in the Tap & Pay screen and in the Device Administrator list. A report in June stated that Google will not charge fees for Android Pay transactions.

With Android Pay users can use their phone’s NFC capability to make a transaction simply by tapping their phone onto a supporting terminal. Google Pay gives users a virtual account number and thus protects your actual number from being used and falling into the wrong hands. Google claims that the service will work with over 700,000 retailers in USA and that it is compatible with existing debit and credit cards.
