Twitter brings autoplay videos and GIF to your timeline

Twitter is following the footsteps of Facebook and Instagram by bringing autoplay videos and GIF to your timeline. Autoplay videos will first go live on iOS and will soon come to web and Android.

With the latest feature enabled, native videos, Vines, and GIFs will begin to play back automatically and unmute once you tap on them. If you turn the video to landscape mode, the sound will turn on and the video will expand to fit the screen. Twitter videos will be muted in your timeline; tap them to turn on the sound and see a full-screen view. Mobile users can turn their handset sideways into landscape mode to automatically launch those features.

Users can turn off autoplay all the time or only when you are away from Wi-Fi and Twitter will also automatically disable the feature if it detects you are somewhere with low bandwidth. The latest feature comes just days after Twitter CEO Dick Costolo announced his departure from the company. Autoplay videos will open a new revenue stream for Twitter which is struggling to gain advertising revenue.
