Sony has just begun its roll-out of Android Lollipop 5.0.2 for the older devices of the XPERIA Z series. The update has so far been confirmed to appear on the XPERIA Z and ZR.

While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, chances are that the XPERIA ZL and the Tablet Z are receiving the update as well. Currently the update is only available OTA (Over-the-air) so your Sony PC companion software might not notify you of the update and it would be better to use your phone itself to check for the update. The new update brings the build number to 10.6.A.0.454.

But we would recommend that you use your Wi-Fi to download and install the update as it will be quite large in size. The update for the XPERIA Z for example is 694.8 MB in size as seen in the screenshot above. However if you are on an unlimited plan or have a large data limit, then even an update over data connection should be fine.

The new update should bring quite a lot of changes and improvements including the Material Design UI, updated lockscreen, ability to transfer apps to SD card, support for multi-users, guest mode and much more.

Although the update has started appearing across various devices, it might take sometime to come to your particular device depending on your region and carrier branding if you do have it. If you do already have the update, do let us know what you think of the update and what improvements and changes it brings.
