Windows 10 unified store includes apps, music and movies

Microsoft has announced that it is bringing a major update to the Store that will now include all the content in one place. Apps, movies, TV shows and music will be present in a single store for Windows 10.

“The experience you will see today is unfinished and we have a lot more work to do. For example – you won’t see movie or TV details like cast and crew and you’ll only be able to stream video content right now. But don’t worry – offline download capability will be coming!”

posted Microsoft in a Windows blog.

Movies and TV show rentals and purchases are available to test for preview members today, while Microsoft says music will be added in the coming weeks. The main aim of the unified store is to make it easier for users to download different content for different devices at a single place. This essentially means that Microsoft wants users to obtain content and apps for PCs, tablets, smartphones, Xbox consoles or Internet of Things in only one store instead of accessing different stores.

Windows 10 testers will be able to rent and purchase TV shows and movies today in countries including US, Canada, Mexico, Austria, Belgium (only movies – no TV content), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand.
