Google patents ‘Active watching’ technology for Search

Google has improved its voice command feature on Android since its inception. Now it looks like the company is taking a new step forward and improving the voice command further. google-active-watching-640x459 A new patent filed by Google earlier this month is said to take voice commands to a next level. Dated Spetmeber 4th, the patent is titled as “detecting the end of a user question,”.  This patent includes an “active watching” technology to further enhance Google Search. Apparently, the technology records the voices, faces and even lip movement of everyone within range of the phone. In addition to voice, cameras and videos are also involved in determining where a user is and how to service him.

“The visual analyzer may determine the number of people in an area represented by the visual data, the identity of the people, the vertical and horizontal angles of the heads of the people, and lip movement of the people” reads the patent.

The phone uses multiple microphones to detect the location of voices, enabling it to ignore speech input coming from unintended sources. Moving on, the patent states that Google describes how it would store and use data related to users’ “social networks, social actions or activities, profession, user preferences” and “current location.” It must be noted that at present Google has merely patented the “active watching” technology and it is not clear whether it will incorporate it near future.
