iPhone, the india connection

The iPhone has created ripples across the world and people in countries like India and Canada are eagerly waiting for the iPhone. Apple is also making people long for this sexy touch screen mobile phone, by launching it phase by phase. Though the iPhone has not yet come to India, it is making its way to the Indian shores through the illegal route of grey markets. You just need to go in the grey markets that operate in Heera Panna of Mumbai or the buzzing underground market of Palika Bazaar New Delhi and you can get an unlocked iPhone for 22,000 bucks. These phones are making their way into India from the US market through the illegal route. Sometime back Apple wanted to curb this so it came out with a policy where only 2 iPhone can be bought by a person and that also using a credit card so that bulk buying is avoided and every transaction is recorded, but this didn’t help much and the saga of unlocked iPhones spread in different countries. On the top of that Apple came out with firmware updates which when installed on iPhone lock it down. Anyways, it seems that the iPhone and India connection is not going be illegal always. Rumors say that Apple might launch iPhone with Reliance, Airtel or Idea. Reliance being a dominant CDMA palyer might not be a good option for Apple but then it can go with either Airtel or Idea….anyways it doent matter as in India, unlike US or Europearket is not operator centric.
