To help you find the best ideas, today we’re introducing Guided Search. It’s made for exploring, whether you know exactly what you want, or you’re just starting to look around.

posted Pinterest on official blog post.

Guided Search offers suggestions and lets users filter their search by adding specific filters relevant to the original search term. When a Pinterest user enters a topic, pins start showing up below a carousel of suggestions for ways to narrow the search down. Citing an example about haircuts Pinterest said that you can look for various haircut styles for redheads, curly hair, layers etc. Tap on each of those words to add it to your search and you’ll get closer and closer to your next haircut inspiration.

Secondly, with Custom categories users can add new categories based on their own boards. Initially, Pinterest had 32 categories but considering users vast interest, it has added more narrowly focused categories. Finally, the company announced changes to its Related Pins feature, which is a set of items that accompanies every pin. Pinterest has tweaked the  algorithm include related pieces of content that are not necessarily similar images or products.

The visual scrapbooking site now hosts some 30 billion pins, nearly half of which, it says, were created in the last six months alone. Also it currently hosts 750 million boards curated by users and brands.
