Instagram is leaving no stone unturned in competing with Snapchat and now it is being reported that the social media giant is working on bringing a new portrait-mode feature for the Stories camera that is found buried in the Instagram Android APK. This functionality will let users shoot portrait shots with bokeh effect-blurring the background.

According to a reader of TechCrunch who shared an exclusive image of the portrait option in action after decompiling the APK, the icon shows up overlaid on the Instagram Stories camera shutter button which can be accessed by swiping right. Portrait mode is now the current trending feature which is found even on phones ranging from budget segment phones to high-end iPhones.

With portrait-mode built right into the core app, users can shoot and upload directly to Instagram. It is, however, unclear if Instagram’s portrait-mode would have more ways to stylize an image, but with Instagram’s editing tools, there are tons of effects that the company could use. There is also a chance that Instagram might launch the portrait-mode under a different name to make it catchy and trendy. Last week there were reports about video and voice calling feature spotted in Instagram’s Direct messaging application.
