Snapchat launches Lens Studio app for Mac and Windows to create your own AR filters

Snapchat

Snapchat today has launched a new app; Lens Studio for Mac and Windows that lets you design and build AR lenses for Snapchat. The new AR tool from Snapchat lets anyone create World Lenses that can be used to place interactive and imaginary 3D objects in your photos and videos.

The new AR tool is slightly trimmed down version of the Snap’s own tool that the company’s team is used to build AR experiences. Anyone with minimum 2D photoshop knowledge can now jump into making image overlays or reactive AR characters. Though developers retain ownership of Lenses they create, Snapchat has the right to use them.

Developers will get a temporary Snapcode to test their 3D objects and other creations on phones, and once it clears the review from Snapchat, developers get a Snapcode that’s valid for a year, and they have the full authority to promote that in any platform they wish. The review process will moderate Lenses, and these Snapcodes can’t depict violence, weapons, nudity, sex acts, profanity, hatred, stereotypes, illegal activity, hashtags, usernames, threats, bullying, etc.

Snapchat will also provide rewards to developers who create Lenses that match a proposed theme or use case. Snapchat has partnered with Avatar Labs, Fisherman Labs, Haus, Media Monks, North Kingdom, Trigger Global and Vidmob to outsource the creation of its AR experiences. You can get the Lens Studio from Snapchat website.
