Google Photos 2.0 for iOS brings Motion Stills live photo editing features

Google released Motion Still app for iOS back in June that uses video stabilization technology to freeze the background into a still photo or create sweeping cinematic pans to remove shakiness for creating smooth GIFs from Live Photos. Now the feature is available for Google Photos with the major version 2.0 update. The app got live photos support earlier this year.

Google already said that new Motion Stills algorithm “uses linear programming to compute a virtual camera path that is optimized to recast videos and bursts as if they were filmed using stabilization equipment, yielding a still background or creating cinematic pans to remove shakiness.”

Once created, you can easily save it as a looping video and share it with anyone. The update also adds the ability to sort photos in albums chronologically or by recently added, which will be available soon for Android users.

New features in Google Photos 2.0 for iOS
