Vodafone To Offer 3G Services By Year-End

on July 29, 2010 – 3:49 am13 Comments

Economic Times recently reported that Vodafone Essar Limited, the Indian subsidiary of Vodafone Group Plc will launch 3G services in India by the year-end. Vodafone has already acquired 3G spectrum in nine circles which includes Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai & Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra & Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (East) and West Bengal for Rs 11,617 crore.

“We are ready to launch 3G services in nine circles by this year-end. We are waiting for spectrum allocation. As soon as we get the spectrum, we will be able to launch our services. Vodafone Essar has secured a critical strategic footprint across the country, particularly in the markets where we expect the main demand for 3G services to be in the next few years. We expect a strong uptake for 3G in these markets, particularly among the higher value customers, which is a growing segment owing to rising affluence and increasing urban population,” said Marten Pieters, Vodafone Essar Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

The 3G spectrum acquired by Vodafone in nine circles covers 60 percent of their current customer base. Even the charges of 3G services offered by the company are expected to be around Rs.1000 per month. Would you pay such a high amount every month for 3G services? Why pay more price when BSNL and others gives in too much lower price. 3G service must be same or slight bit more higher then landline broadband connection.

No way 1k for 3G services, i wud rather opt for MNP (if it starts) and shift to either BSNL or MTNL. they r way cheaper, and am sure onve MNP comes into force, rates will go down

    FYI
BSNL/MTNL 3G unlimited costs Rs. 3001 for unlimited plan.
And Vodafone is giving it for 1000 bucks and you call it expensive?

If they bring contract type system like in US or Europe and offer high end devices at subsidized rates, then i don’t mind to subscribe at this cost for 2 years.

Who said that Vodafone will provide unlimited usage for 1k?
    Don’t even think about that.
They may give a max of 500MB

Alright I’m willing to way such hefty charges i.e Rs.1000/- (Base data plans) or 3000/- (Unlimited data plan) given network carriers subsidize the prices of handsets as in U.S

No bloody way, I’m going to pay 40000/- (or 800 USD) for a locked iPhone with data prices as high as mentioned above.

Sell the phones in contracts if its not viable to offer decent data plans in Sub-500/- range.
