Samsung has developed expansion slot with support for both UFS and microSD cards

Samsung UFS card

Samsung introduced the world’s first expandable Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 1.0 card last week that offers sequential read speed of up to 530MBps. Since the card requires a special slot and doesn’t work when is is inserted into a standard microSD slot due to different pin layout. Samsung already said that devices with UFS support would be available in future.

Now Droid-life has got to know from Samsung that it has developed expansion slot that supports both UFS 1.0 and microSD cards.

Regarding this Samsung said:

The new UFS cards are not compatible with the current microSD card socket. However, we have developed a socket design that can support both UFS cards and microSD cards. We are working with different partners in the industry on this integration for next-generation devices.

It is not clear if the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note7 will come with this slot. We will know when it goes official on August 2nd.

The UFS cards come in 256GB, 128GB, 64GB and 32GB capacities. Samsung did not reveal the pricing or when it would ship the UFS memory cards.
