Google has acquired video and photo editing startup Fly Labs for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will see Fly Labs technology integrated into the Google Photos app

Fly Labs and Google

“Google Photos is a home for your life’s memories, powered by Google’s machine learning and computer vision technology. It’s a perfect match for what we built at Fly Labs, and we’re looking forward to folding our technology into Google Photos. We’ll be pouring the same passion into Google Photos that we poured into Clips, Fly, Tempo and Crop on the Fly.”

posted Fly Labs in a blog.

Fly Labs claims that its video editing apps have been downloaded more than 3 million times in over 150 different countries and that over 20 million videos have been created with its apps. The company’s three apps that are mentioned above will be available for next three months. Also, those apps will now be “completely free with no in-app purchases”. Once the apps are removed from the App Store you will still be able to use them, but they will no longer be available for download.

Google recently announced that Google Photos has clocked more than 100 million monthly users. The unlimited photo service comes with apps available on iOS, Android, and on the web.
