Dear all – can sumone tell me whether an HTC desire bought from the UK (Orange) can receive the android 2.2 Froyo as and when it is released. Coz am using Airtel here in India.

And yeah if this cant be done then how come the people who bought the nexus one have been able to update.

    • Angad Singh

it will get the update as soon as the country u bought it in gets the update……
just check before buying thats its not locked to orange coz if u get it unlocked then on every update it will be locked and its nearly impossible to hack/ root 2.2 Froyo

  • Vivek123

Thanks Angad..well as a matter of fact i already have the device since over a week. But what I must tell you is that I got the phone in an unboxed condition and that it worked on Airtel as soon as I inserted the sim. does that mean it was not locked to Orange even thought it was bought from Orange UK?

And also does this mean that I can get the Froyo update without the risk of the phone getting locked to Orange?

One more thing I wanted to ask is whether I should think about buying the Nexus One now. If so I would like to know whether I can get an unbranded Nexus One. Is there any thing caled an unbranded Nexus One and does it run fine?

Hey Varun I guess it would be a good Idea if we can create a community for the few android enthusiasts that we are here in India..sharing email numbers (if no one has a problem) that ways its much better to discuss. If its against ur forum rules pls bear with me. Cox now I feel it wasnt that wise of me to have bought an Orange UK Desire..n it wudve been much better if we could talk to sumone and then decide on these things..As in someone who knows what we are talking about (ppl like the ones on this forum)

  • Vivek123

n yeah i wud like to add here that the Desire is one heck of a machine even without the Froyo (I owned a Hero and an HD2 prior to this) They just pale in comparison

  • Murali

hey can someone tell me how much the import duty charges are for importing a HTC desire from the UK to India.

    • sajid

Murali from where in UK u r buying, coz i am planning to buy from clove.co.uk, it should be around 25k ,its including all charges and my bank takes 3% on it.

  • Murali

yes, i will also be buying it from clove. are you sure it would only come to 25k as the legend itself is being sold here for 24k. i thought it would be more around 30k.

  • pranav

guyz if i purchase an htc desire(unlocked) from singapore/hong kong and get it to india, will the HTC guys refuse to service it god forbid it has any problem???????????and will i be able to update to froyo 2.2 here in india???????pleeeeeeeeeez help me wid dis guys.i gotta know dis.

  • Srikar

    Hi Guys,

I want to know from people who already have the desire if the 3g connectivity is fine on indian networks (currently only bsnl/mtnl). Basically whether the desire’s 3g antenna picks up indian 3g signals.

Also, if you find the device’s 3g to work fine on these networks, does that mean this device’s 3g antenna will work on other indian carriers (Airtel, vodafone) who will start 3g services shortly?

    Answers to some questions:

    1. HTC Desire, bought from another country will be supported here, without warranty, So if there are any issues you will be charged for that.

    2. Froyo 2.2 could be directly upgraded to Desire, but you will lose the HTC Sense UI, so if you want that you will have to wait till HTC releases Froyo with HTC Sense.

    3. There is nothing like Indian 3G, all major phones support all 3G, yes the Indian 3G will cost much due to the crazy auctions.

Thank you for spreading misinformation :|

      • Ashok

Can u please inform me what the misinformation is here?

        • http://www.kalpik.com Kalpik Nigam

          1. HTC specifically say they won’t support the phone here.. Think logically, if the phone isn’t launched here, why would they keep the phone parts, train their people to repair the phone? You will have to go to the gray market only to get any type of support.

          2. As of now, there is no froyo port for the Desire. Heck, even Nexus One does not have official froyo yet. So nobody can comment on froyo availability.

          3. India runs on the 2100 3G band.. Not all phones support all the 3G bands.

        • Angad Singh

i have talked to the htc people they wont repair a phone bought outside india coz india is not supported in the global htc warranty… (i guess they dont like us)
so there is no chance that they will repair a phone nit even available in india….

      • Sajid

what misinformation ?? what Ashok said is right.

HTC Desire is probably getting launched in second week of August.

I got this response from their customer care.
I hope it gets launched in India. these HTC guys are really neglecting India market.

      Regards,
      Mav

      • Pentagenius

see wot i basically wanna know is WILL MY UNLOCKED DESIRE RECEIVE SOFTWARE UPDATES AS SOON AS THEY ARE MADE AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE?dats all.i dnt wanna do risky stuff like rooting/hacking etc to get froyo.i can wait.please please tell me if my desire will get updates as soon as they are released internationally by htc regardless of desire’s india launch?

    • http://www.kalpik.com Kalpik Nigam

You *should* get OTA updates! But if you can wait, why not wait for it to be launched in India? Or better, get the Samsung Galaxy S, which has already launched in India, and is a *much* better phone than Desire!

  • Angad Singh

any phone u get can be upgraded legally only when the country u bought it from gets the update…..
